My Social Media Addiction

Happy back-to-work, everyone. Summer vacation is officially over, you’re in heavy planning mode, and we are absolutely delighted to take your phone and email requests for proposals! September is always a busy month for starting new work because the new year is right around the corner. Is it a psychological thing to want riveting new marketing messaging every January? Or are you just so fabulously organized that you’re already envisioning the gorgeous new marketing collateral you’ll roll out at your Q1 sales and user conferences? Love it, love it, either way.

September’s blog theme is “back-to-social-media,” which has special meaning for me after giving up all social media activities for the month of August. It was sooo easy to stop tweeting and Facebooking—or even peeking at those sites—but I positively ached for my LinkedIn. Even during August, there was just too much going on—b-school friends changing jobs, clients posting new profile pics, for God’s sake—to stay on the sidelines.

One of our clients even quit her job to take an exotic “surf sabbatical”—but reportedly has been spotted back in town, wearing business attire instead of a wetsuit. Was it so wrong to comb my weekly LinkedIn Network Updates for news of her impending return to financial services marketing, and to then send a few unobtrusive LinkedIn emails in an attempt to track down this elusive surfer-marketer? If you peek at my profile (no teasing that I haven’t yet reached the coveted “500+ connections” status), you will see that—mon dieu!—I caved and also initiated a few VIP connections during the last week of August …

I suppose a LinkedIn addiction is not such a terrible addiction to have, especially during the exceptionally exciting and busy back-to-work month of September.

BTW, shall we connect?
